Why do we need green energy? Because burning coal (above) is bad. When burnt, coal becomes a green-house-gas (CO2), it's also where most of our electricity comes from. A green house gas is a gas that thickens our atmosphere.

Before the world was polluted by a bunch of CO2, some of the radiation from the sun would be stuck inside our atmosphere, a good amount, but when more and more CO2 is released into the air, more and more of the radiation gets stuck in our atmosphere, heating the Earth. Now, you might say that that's a good thing, but when the world heats up, ice from the poles melt and turns into water raising sea levels and causing severe flooding of every coastal city in the world. Not so good.
However we can avoid all of that with more solar panels, wind turbines, and
hydro-electric dams, they release zero CO2.
